This Saturday February 18th 9AM to 10AM on Stage Door, host April Steier will be conducting a live interview with directors Dan Stowell and Kaitlyn Huwe from the upcoming Player’s Ring production of 12 Angry Men. 12 Angry Men is a dramatic play written by Reginald Rose which is a blistering character study of the American melting pot and the judicial system that is supposed to keep it in check. 12 Angry Men at the Player’s Ring features an ensemble of the Seacoast area’s best actors, you can see there performances February 17 - March 4.

This Saturday January 21st 9AM to 10AM on Stage Door, host April Steier will be conducting a live interview with cast members from the Player’s Ring upcoming production of BODY.
BODY was the first original play presented by the the Players Ring in it’s premier season 1992-1993. BODY originally opened in January of 1993, and has now been chosen as part of the ENCORE series for the Ring’s 20th anniversary celebration. BODY is the story of three young men, societal misfits, who discover that the dead body of the legendary actress Marilyn Monroe lies in the autopsy room next to their “hangout” in the basement of a morgue in LA.

This Saturday November 5th on my show Stage Door from 9AM-10AM, I will be joined live in the WSCA studio with students from the Portsmouth High School Performing Arts Department performing songs from their upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast.” After their in-studio performance, I will have an opportunity to interview these talented students.

This Saturday 8AM-10AM October 29th on Stage Door there will be a special Halloween inspired double header of two well known radio dramas from Orson Welles’s theatrical company Mercury Theatre. The first will be the infamous “The War of the Worlds” radio drama which was originally aired on October 30, 1938 and reportedly caused a widespread panic since many listeners believed the story was “real.”
The second will be the first radio drama produced by the Mercury Theatre - Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” which originally aired on Jul 11, 1938. Listening to these radio dramas will put you right into the Halloween spirit. Join WSCA DJ Robin Nitschelm, who is filling in for your regular host April Mulkern, for this Halloween spectacular!

On Saturday September 3rd 8AM-10AM on my show Stage Door, I will be cherishing the last of summer’s great weekends by talking about all the great end of summer theatre and artistic events going on in Portsmouth. I will be re-broadcasting a set of interviews I did with attendees and volunteers from Portsmouth Museum of Art’s exhibition Street AKA Museum, which is finishing up its run on September 11th.

This Saturday June 18th on Stage Door, I will be doing a Tony Award Winner wrap-up on what musicals and actors won awards for this year’s awards ceremony. I will also be featuring some newly released music from Tony Award winners, including music from the hottest musical on Broadway right now The Book of Mormon. Going along with the new Broadway music theme, I will also be playing music from Julie Taymor’s newly revamped version of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, featuring music done by U2. Tune in to hear who won and who didn’t win for this year’s Tony Awards.
This Saturday June 11th on my show, Stage Door ( 8 - 10 am), I will be celebrating the legacy of Disney animated films and will be playing all of the best Disney songs from stage and screen. Many Disney films have been adapted to the Broadway stage like Little Mermaid, Lion King, Finding Nemo, Beauty and the Beast and so many others. I’ll be analyzing the difference between the Broadway and film versions of Disney songs and also be talking about the influence that Broadway and musical theater in general has had on Disney animated films.

This Saturday May 28 8AM-10AM on my show Stage Door I will be shining a bright spotlight on “The Tempest,” which according to many critics was the last play that Shakespeare wrote. I will be re-broadcasting a BBC World Service Drama production adapted for radio and directed by Walter Acosta staring the late great Sir John Gielgud in the role of Prospero. Towards the end of my show I will be playing selections from the soundtrack of the latest film version of “The Tempest” which was in limited release in movie theater’s last year directed by Julie Taymor with a absolutely hauntingly beautiful score done by Oscar winning composer, Elliot Goldenthal. Tune in to celebrate this lesser known Shakespearean play.

This Saturday May 21st on my show Stage Door (9AM-10AM) I will be interviewing local poet, actor and performance artist Alan Wilbar. We will be discussing his role in Northeastern Ballet Theatre’s upcoming production of Midsummer Night’s Dream which is occurring at the Hussey Theater at Noble High School in North Berwick, ME on May 28th. We will also be discussing his inspiring story of his recovery from a traumatic brain injury and how he was able to persevere and have a successful career as a theatrical performer and poet. His play “The Learning Man” has been performed in many areas of the seacoast, tells the story of his injury and how he has been able to prevail.

Join host April Mulkern on Saturday April 2nd from 9AM to 10AM for Stage Door. April will be interviewing board members of the New Hampshire Community Theater Association (NHCTA). They will be discussing their efforts in reaching and supporting New Hampshire area community theater organizations. They will also tell us about their theater festivals and competitions. Today on Stage Door I will be having a live interview with students and organizers from the local non-profit organization Arts in Reach as well as Portsmouth Museum of Art Director Cathy Sununu. Arts in Reach (AIR) mission is to empower teenage girls through mentoring and the arts. AIR provides mentoring through the arts to teenage girls in the Greater Seacoast of New Hampshire. AIR empowers teenage girls through innovative teaching and mentoring, utilizing accessible arts programming as the platform for success. AIR develops girls’ creative freedom and power of voice in a positive setting where teenage girls thrive. Around 9AM we will be discussing how this amazing program started and the students experiences within it and also will be joined by Cathy Sununu, the director of the Portsmouth Museum of Art, as we will be discussing the museum’s involvement with AIR which has included organizing a discussion and gallery showing at the end of the month of the student’s portrait work which has been inspired by the Museum’s current iImage Exhibition. Join us in learning about AIR’s positive influence on teenage girls and also hear about Portsmouth Museum of Art’s efforts in community outreach
