BlueJazzPel - Thursday - July 7th - 6-8 PM - Guest Host: Jenny Freeman sitting in for Peter Langley
    July 7th, 2011

Tonight I’m subbing for Peter on the BlueJazzPel show – and very excited to have the opportunity to play some blues, jazz and gospel for you.  All week I’ve been going through my library and dusting off some stuff that hasn’t seen the light of day in a while.  It’s been a very good excuse for getting reacquainted with the three CD set of “Dizzy’s Diamonds, best of the Verve years”.  Holy mackerel, what good stuff!

Be sure to tune in to BlueJazzPel tonight from 6-8pm.   Only on WSCA-LP, Portsmouth Community Radio, 106.1 FM and streaming from  www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org.  –Jenny Freeman

Soul Vaccination - Thursday - 6-8 PM - Host: Jenny Freeman
    June 30th, 2011

I’ll confess, I love the shuffle setting on my mp3 – the random jumping from one artist to the next sometimes brings a freshness to a song that I might not have noticed if the song were buried into the full CD.  But tonight is three-fer Thursday – I’ll be playing three cuts by the same artist back to back.  It will give us all a chance to relax into the artist’s style and listen a little more deeply.  No particular style or decade – but it will be soul.

So be sure to tune in to Soul Vaccination tonight from 6-8pm for a dose of what you need.

    June 15th, 2011

Tonight we’ll be pulling some of the best soul and R&B vocalists from the stacks, leading off with Aretha.  Soul ’69, Aretha’s album of covers, backed by some of the finest musicians in the business, is the inspiration for this show.  It’s just killer.  So be sure to tune in to Soul Vaccination tonight from 6-8pm for a dose of what you need.

Soul Vaccination - Thursday - June 2nd - 6-8 PM - Host: Jenny Freeman - Featuring: Philadelphia Music Late 60′s into the 70′s
    June 2nd, 2011

Last year around this time I did a show highlighting the music that came out of Philadelphia in the late 60’s into the 70’s.  I enjoyed that show so much, I’m bringing it on back.  We’ll be listening to the great music of the Spinners, the Three Degrees, The O’Jays, Archie Bell & The Drells, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and so many more.

Tune in tonight from 6-8pm for Philly Sound Redux on Soul Vaccination.  Only on WSCA-LP, Portsmouth Community Radio, 106.1 FM on your radio dial and streaming worldwide from www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org.  –Jenny Freeman

Thursday - May 12th - 6 to 8 PM - Soul Vaccination and BlueJazzPel - Team Up For Their Pledge Drive Show - Hosts: Jenny Freeman and Peter Langley - Read Details!
    May 12th, 2011

Tonight I’ll be sharing the 6-8pm timeslot with Peter of the BlueJazzPel.  Our spring membership drive is in full swing and I’m hoping that some of you who love soul, funk and R&B (and non-commercial, locally produced programming), will call in to renew your membership or make a donation.  We rely on you, dear listener, to keep us on the air.

And I have some new music to share with the listeners tonight – Otis Redding (photo) Live in London and Paris.  To say this album is electrifying is an understatement.  His version of Shake is sure to get you calling the station with your donation – and our number is 603.430.9722.  And you can also donate on-line at our website.  Any amount is truly appreciated.

Tune in tonight for Soul Vaccination and BlueJazzPel, 6-8pm! Only on WSCA-LP, Portsmouth Community Radio, 106.1 FM on your radio dial and streaming worldwide from www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org

    Soul Vaccination - Thursday - May 5th - 6-8 PM - Host: Jenny Freeman - Soul From 2000 On!
    May 5th, 2011

Tonight, for the first time ever in the history of Soul Vaccination, we’ll be listening to music that was recorded in this millennium exclusively.  That’s right, folks.  We’re leaving the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s behind and listening to what’s been recorded from 2000 on.

And this is some great music.  We’ll be hearing from Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Solomon Burke (photo), Mavis Staples, Maceo Parker, Dr. John.  And young artists , too, like Matthew Stubbs, Duffy, and Raphael Saadiq.  And a whole lot more.

My show is just your warm-up for tonight . . . at 7:30 head over to the Jarvis Center (by Portsmouth High) for a WSCA benefit concert and dance with the Boston Horns, a 7-piece funk/jazz/soul band.  Tickets are only $15 and are available at Bull Moose and at the door.  And there’s food and drink!  This concert is a big kick-off for our spring fundraiser which begins at 6 am Friday morning.   We’ll be broadcasting from the concert – but there is nothing like live music, so come on down!

In the meantime . . . let the fever rise.  Soul Vaccination tonight, 6-8pm, for a strong dose of what you need.

    January 27th, 2011

Tonight we go back to the 60’s for some fine R&B and soul favorites.

It’s going to be a wide sweep of Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Solomon Burke and others, all tied together with a heavy dose of Aretha.  I had my ear buds in most of yesterday and couldn’t get over how fresh Aretha’s music remains.

    Soul Vaccination - Thursday - December 16th - 6 - 8 PM - Host: Jenny Freeman - Holiday Extravaganza!
    December 16th, 2010

Tonight is the annual Soul Vaccination Holiday Extravaganza!  From 6-7 PM, I’ll be playing some lesser known but great R&B Christmas tunes.  At 7 we’ll listen to the swingingest Nutcracker Suite you’ll ever hear - Duke Ellington’s take on the classic, in its entirety. Before we wrap it up and call it a night, we’ll hear Duke Ellington’s David Danced Before the Lord, with soloist Bunny Briggs, tap dancer extraordinaire.    And my pledge to you:  you won’t hear Santa Baby on my show.

Let the fever rise.  Soul Vaccination coming in to night, 6-8pm, for a strong dose of what you need.

Soul Vaccination - Thursday - Dec. 2nd - 6-8 PM - Host: Jenny Freeman - Tonight “Motown Celebration”
    December 2nd, 2010

Yes, it’s pop music, but great music, really great music.  Besides churning out the hits, Motown was terrifically groundbreaking in terms of racial relations.  Not only were these African American artists getting airplay with white audiences, this was a label owned by an African American man.  Hear the music that both blacks and whites were embracing, while down in Birmingham police were turning water hoses and police dogs on Martin Luther King.

Soul Vaccination tonight for a strong dose of what you need.

Only on WSCA-LP, Portsmouth Community Radio, 106.1 FM on your radio dial and streaming worldwide from www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org.  –Jenny Freeman
