The Free Speech Zone - Sunday - April 3rd - 7-8 PM - Host: DJ Big Brother Then: “Lives in the Balance” 8-9 PM
    March 31st, 2011

Tune in to The Free Speech Zone on Sunday night April 3rd at 7 pm to hear more Radio Ecoshock coverage of the crisis in Japan titled: JAPAN ~ TRIPLE MELTDOWN with host Alex Smith. We’ll hear  confirmation that 3 reactors are damaged and melting down in Japan and about the extreme danger at those nuclear sites and at American reactors located on earthquake faults. Also Civil Defense info to protect yourself and how citizens can take action. Japanese authorities admit the protective  containment vessels of 3 reactors at Fukushima Dai-ichi are “punctured”, Reactor 2 is likely cracked, leaking hot fuel down to concrete basement.  The situation out of control and highly radioactive water is pouring into the Pacific Ocean. Radioactivity is found in the soil and food more than 100 miles from the  site. Plutonium released and Cesium will keep large parts of Japan uninhabitable, like Chernobyl, for at least 30 years. A big impact is expected on the world economy.  Activist Rochelle Becker and Berkeley lawyer and clean tech specialist Steven Weissman comment.

On WSCA-LP 106.1 FM - Portsmouth Community Radio (streaming via www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org

Audio Theatre - Tuesday - March 29th - 6 to 8 PM - Host: John Lovering - Featured Shows Include: Sam Spade / Green Hornet / Space Patrol / Superman
    March 28th, 2011

Howard Duff stars in The Adventures of Sam Spade.  This outstanding detective series features a script mixed with action, witty conversation, and humor.  Tonight’s adventure “The Dry Martini Caper” from August 1, 1948.  (30 min).

From Detroit’s WXYZ, the home of The Lone Ranger and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, comes  The Green Hornet!    Tonight’s exciting adventure is entitled “Murder Traps A Rat” and was originally aired on September 12, 1942 on NBC.  (30 min).  Interesting sidelight - Cato, the “Tonto” character of The Green Hornet, was Japanese prior to December 7th, 1941.   After Pearl Harbor, Catp’s nationality became “Phillipino!”.   Britt Reid is of course The Green Hornet and he rode around town in “The Black Beauty” which had a distinct buzzing sound as it zipped along the streets… hence the name “Hornet”… now why was it “Green?”

Space Patrol is back again this week with a really unique story entitled “The Brain Bank and the Space Binoculars” … so put down your Atomophone and tune in your Radiophone for an exciting adventure as Commander Buzz Corey (Ed Kemmer) and Cadet Happy (Lyn Osborne) zip about the galaxy in the spaceship “Terra V” in search of the brain bank and the space binoculars!  Originally aird January 3, 1953 - 30 minutes.

Clayton “Bud” Collyer (photo) is Clark Kent AND Superman as The Adventures of Superman - The Emerald of the Incas Part 4 of 6 parts, continues tonight.  This program was one of the most popular juvenile adventure serials on radio for eleven years … from 1940 to 1951… producing hundreds of 15 minute episodes and many half-hour programs.   Look, up in the sky… it IS Superman on Portsmouth Community Radio.   Tonight’s show was originally aired  on April 8, 1940 (11 min)

    March 28th, 2011

And you thought the civil war was over!
There’s suddenly serious talk in New Hampshire and elsewhere about such things as nullification of federal laws, repealing the 14th Amendment, and secession.

My guest on Tuesday’s show is Western Kentucky University Civil War History professor Glenn Lafantasie. What is settled law and what is not?

Tune in Tuesday from noon to one at WSCA 106.1 and see you at the State House Thursday!!

The Free Speech Zone - Sunday - March 27th - 7 to 8 PM - Host: DJ Big Brother / Then: “Lives in the Balance” from 8 to 9 PM
    March 25th, 2011

Tune in to The Free Speech Zone on Sunday night March 27th at 7 pm to hear JAPAN: Twilight of the Nuclear Gods, Radio EcoShock’s coverage of the disasters in Japan.  Including news of reactor fires, explosions, radiation, interviews with Nicole Foss of The Automatic Earth and Shawn Patrick from Greenpeace, plus alternative news clips. What does it all mean for aging American reactors? For Canada, Europe? Segments on government withholding in Japan, the larger risk of “spent” fuel, and the same old reactor types in America. Dire indeed! On WSCA-LP 106.1 FM - Portsmouth Community Radio (streaming via www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org for those outside the broadcast signal limits)  Then stay tuned for some great music on Lives In The Balance from 8 to 9 pm.  Kind regards,  Brad  aka dj Big Brother

Portsmouth At Large - Monday - March 21st - 9 to 10 AM - Hosts: Valerie Chriske Smith and Liz Wright / Guest: Steve McHenry and Sue Cobler of “Art-Speak”
    March 20th, 2011

Hosts: Valerie Chriske Smith and Liz Wright

The seacoast is so rich in the arts as can often be seen through the non-profits we have on our show. From visual artists, to theatre to the humanities, not to mention the music (the list goes on!), there is no doubt a culture surrounding the arts here. Yet, not everyone is aware of this and perhaps don’t understand the importance of keeping the art culture alive and well. Art-Speak was created as a direct result of the Portsmouth Cultural Plan. It’s mission is to “promote appreciate, awareness, participation, and dialogue in support of arts and culture.” Even for someone, like myself, who is interested in the arts, sometimes I find myself asking where do I start? I want to take a pottery class…where do I find that? I want to support local artists and buy a painting for my empty wall…where are they being sold? Where do I find supplies for my camera, or how do I get into graphic design? All of these questions can be answered on Art-Speak’s straight-forward, user friendly and comprehensive website, filled with all things related to the arts: www.art-speak.org

Our very own host, Liz Wright, is on the board of Art-Speak. On Monday she is bringing along with her the President, Steve McHenry and the one and only staff person, Sue Cobler.

Tune in to Portsmouth At Large with hosts Liz Wright and Valerie Smith alternating Mondays at 9AM, only on WSCA-LP, Portsmouth Community Radio, 106.1 FM on your radio dial and streaming worldwide from www.portsmouthcommunityradio.org.  Educating the public on local non-profits, one non-profit at a time. FIND US ON FACEBOOK
