Our Mission:
To operate a dynamic listener supported, volunteer operated, nonprofit, noncommercial FM radio station to serve Portsmouth and adjacent communities. Portsmouth Community Radio strives to serve the Greater Portsmouth area by broadcasting diverse and alternative programming which is produced locally and reflects the educational, cultural, artistic, civic, and business interests of the listening community.

Greetings WSCA DJ's, on-air programmers, show producers, studio cats! The WSCA training department, in conjunction with the programming committee and the GMG, announces the station-wide WSCA REFRESHER TRAINING! Since last fall, WSCA has developed and implemented a training program for on-air programmers. Read all about it on the training page! In order to give some of this winter's and spring's new DJs ample opportunity to complete their training, and so that all "legacy" DJs can refresh their on-air experience, we are offering multiple dates to experience MODULE THREE! (Again, for an answer to the question, "What the heck is module three, see the training page.) This mandatory training session will be offered at the station on the time and dates posted below. It is based on the current WSCA training manual, and covers in-depth topics which are vital to all involved with the on-air operations at the station. Our intention is to have all of us confident in and consistently applying the same "rules of the broadcast road." Topics to be covered include:

  1. A review of FCC rules and regulations.
  2. A review of standards and practices of broadcast journalism, and how it all relates to your first amendment rights.
  3. A review of the responsibilities of a WSCA programmer including:
    -
WSCA do's and don'ts, most of which are common sense courtesies.
    - How to prepare your in studio guests for their time behind the microphone.
    - An overview of programming and broadcast departments, and the editorial board.
    - How to conduct studio training for apprentice programmers.

Attendance at one of the refresher courses offered between now and July 15th is necessary for all DJ's, programmers, and show co-hosts in order to maintain your on-air clearance. Dates and times are as follows. Saturday sessions are 8:30-11:00 AM, weeknight sessions are 6:00-8:30 PM:

Tuesday 6/20 --- 6:00 - 8:30 PM
Saturday 6/24 --- 8:30 - 11:00 AM
Tuesday 6/27 --- 6:00 - 8:30 PM
Saturday 7/8 --- 8:30 - 11:00 AM
Tuesday 7/11 --- 6:00 - 8:30 PM
