Portsmouth Community Radio - WSCA-LP - 106.1 FM wishes to thank the Jumbo Circus Peanuts for the terrific Mardi Gras Dance Party that was held at the VFW Hall on 238 Deer St. on Saturday night, February 25th.
All the proceeds from this program were donated to Portsmouth Community Radio and we are deeply grateful to the Jumbo Circus Peanuts for their outstanding contribution to support WSCA-LP.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who worked before, during, and after the event. Without your dedication and hard work we could not have held such an exciting event. Finally, thanks to all those who attended the Mardi Gras Dance Party and contributed to Portsmouth Community Radio by doing so. We know everyone had a great time!
On behalf of all the dedicated volunteers at Portsmouth Community Radio, a great big thank-you to the Seacoast community for its tangible support of our programming during our on-air Pledge Drive of last week.
This has been an important year for our all-volunteer radio station, a year in which we re-committed ourselves to our mission of delivering radio programming to reflect the interests and tastes of the community we serve. We’ve taken a big step in that direction, having focused increasingly on our News and Public Affairs programming. We’ve expanded the number of such programs on our air. We’ve been out in the community, interviewing residents and visitors. And when Portsmouth went to the polls to elect its City Council and a new mayor, Portsmouth Community Radio was on the scene, reporting the results just as the votes were tallied.
We set a goal of $25,000 for our Pledge Drive this time around, our most ambitious to date. During the on-air portion of our semi-annual effort, we brought in $10,000—a good start. Within a week or so, we will be in the mail with what represents the second piece of the Drive. We expect that this will bring in additional donations to bring us closer to our goal.
In the meantime, we know that many listeners want to support their community radio station, that some had intended to but didn’t get the chance. To them, our message is that it’s not too late. This website offers another opportunity to help us achieve our goal and keep community-focused radio coming to the Seacoast. Just click on “Join Online” and follow the prompts to make a secure donation providing credit card or checking account information. And while you’re there, we ask you to please consider a sustaining membership.
Thank you again to our supportive listeners, without whom none of our programming would be possible.
Ann Bliss
Chair, Board of Trustees
In an important new initiative for Portsmouth Community Radio, the station will be presenting a highlight-studded afternoon gathering that includes good Italian food and wines, a cookbook signing by a favorite author and tv host, and two musical performances. Proceeds will go into a special fund to help us recruit and hire our first full-time salaried General Manager.
The Sunday Soirée, Italian Style, is planned for November 13, 2011, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at 55 Oakwood Drive, Portsmouth, hosted by Wayne and Paulette Semprini, Olde Port Properties.
First among the highlights: a book-signing by Mary Ann Esposito, host of PBS’s longest-running cooking show, Ciao Italia, and a frequent guest on Radiogazette (Friday, 9 - 10 am). Throughout the event, as Italian food is being served, a special selection of Italian wines will be poured—wines imported from small family vineyards in Italy and never before tasted on the Seacoast.
The musical performances feature the highly acclaimed baritone opera singer Richard Conrad, accompanied by pianist Arlene Kies, a member of the UNH piano faculty since 1995.
Tickets for this special event are priced at $150 each, which includes a signed copy of Ms. Esposito’s new cookbook, Ciao Italia Family Classics, or two tickets for $250, which includes one signed copy of the cookbook.
While this is an invitation-only event, members can order tickets by emailing pcrpd2011@gmail.com. Deadline for ordering: October 31st. Unable to attend? You can still order a signed copy of the cookbook, Ciao Italia Family Classics, at $50, with an email to that same address.
Portsmouth Community Radio is grateful to the sponsors of this Sunday Soirée, Italian Style: Mary Ann Esposito; Wayne and Paulette Semprini, Olde Port Properties; Allegra Printing, Atlantic Parking Services; Cookology; enVelop Communications; Il Pioppo; Seaport Fish; South Street & Wine; and Tudor Austin.
