US Senators Shaheen and Ayotte spoke briefly and answered questions on April 20, 2012 at the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce (hosted by the Sheraton Hotel). They discussed BRAC (the Base Realignment and Closure process), stating that closing military sites like the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard may take several years to save money, and that the latest nuclear attack submarines are critical to national security.
BRAC is an independent nine-member panel appointed by the President. In 2005, the Pentagon / BRAC process listed the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a site that was not needed and slated it for closure. However a local political outcry (now led by Senators Shaheen and Ayotte as members of the Armed Services Committee) caused the shipyard to be removed from the closure list, for now.
Thanks to Roger Wood for recording this event. Available as MP3 or OGG (Ogg version has some noise correction).
April 19th from 6 to shortly after 10 pm, WSCA aired a live remote broadcast of the Spotlight Awards festivities at the Music Hall. Click here for Mp3 audio. The pre-show broadcast from the lobby started at 6, and the official event started at 7:10.

When Governor John Lynch delivers his State of the State address to members and guests of the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce at 8:00 am on Wednesday, March 21st, Portsmouth Community Radio will be on hand to bring the governor’s address to our listeners live from 106.1 FM and streaming from portsmouthcommunityradio.org. The address is the centerpiece of the morning’s Bank of America Breakfast Forum, to be held in the ballroom of the Sheraton-Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth.
This being Governor Lynch’s fourth and final term in office, Wednesday’s State of the State address will be his last. The governor will speak on the state of the economy and what he sees coming out of the New Hampshire Legislature in 2012 and beyond. There is anticipation, too, that he will share some history and reflection on his eight years as governor.
Hosting the broadcast for us will be Dave Day, with Richard Kirkpatrick the engineer of record. Both are new PCR volunteers. In addition to the live broadcast from the Breakfast Forum, the governor’s address will be rebroadcast on Portsmouth Community Radio on Saturday, March 23rd, from 1 to 2 pm.
